SYLACAUGA, Ala. – At its meeting Tuesday night, April 21, the Sylacauga City Council heard mayoral proclamations, recognized local student-athletes, and approved several agreements and budget amendments.
Mayor Dr. Matt Hubbard proclaimed April as both National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Autism Awareness Month, highlighting community efforts to support children and families.

Hubbard also recognized the Sylacauga High School boys basketball team for finishing as state runners-up in back-to-back seasons, commending the players and coaches for their continued success.
During the meeting, the council entered into an agreement with Safe Haven Baby Boxes and ACT Families for the installation of a Safe Haven Baby Box at Sylacauga Fire Station 1.
Council members approved multiple budget amendments, including the reallocation of $377,821.90 from the operating budget to capital for the Sylacauga Police Department. The council also approved an increase of $5,285 to the Street Department operational budget for replacement of the current high-yield ice machine and an increase of $1,000 to the Sylacauga Fire Department operational budget for flag inventory and flagpole replacement.
The council approved a starting pay of PDC-1 Step 2 for police officers Vincent Wyatt and Leyton Moeser, effective as of their respective hire dates.
Accounts payable invoices for fiscal year 2026 totaling $864,065.15 were also approved.
The next Sylacauga City Council work session and regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, at 6:00 p.m.
