SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The East Alabama Rural Innovation and Training Hub (EARTH), in partnership with the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement, will host internationally recognized fashion designer and filmmaker Jeff Garner for a special Earth Day Week residency on April 23–24 in Sylacauga.
Garner, founder of Prophetik Sustainable Couture and author of “Let Them Be Naked,” is known for pioneering the farm-to-fashion movement. His work incorporates plant-based textiles, natural dyes, and zero-waste design, with collections presented on runways in London, New York, and Paris and featured at cultural institutions and sustainability forums worldwide.
Public events begin Thursday, April 23 with a VIP Designer Showcase from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at McClendon Bridals. The ticketed experience is limited to 25 guests per time slot. A $25 ticket includes access to Garner’s sustainable collections and a reception featuring an artisan welcome drink and confections. The reception will follow at Bourbon on Broadway.
On Friday, April 24, a free Earth-Art Community Gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sam H. Wright Community Garden & Training Center. Activities will include eco-dye demonstrations, garden tours, natural fiber displays, and a light lunch.
Garner’s visit will offer opportunities for students, educators, farmers, and community members to explore sustainable textiles and future possibilities.
EARTH’s Nancy Dickson and Isaac Jennings sat down with KiX Country’s David McCurley to talk more about the events taking place later this week, and you can listen to that full interview below:
