SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A severe weather awareness event is set for Tuesday, April 7, offering Sylacauga residents an opportunity to prepare for the spring storm season.
Meteorologist Evan Chickvara of ABC 33/40 will host the event from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce. Attendees can learn about severe weather safety and preparedness while receiving hands-on assistance with weather radios.
The first 30 attendees in need will receive free weather radios. Residents are also encouraged to bring their existing radios to be programmed on-site.
The event is sponsored by Brown Butter Bakery, Peoples Mortgage, and Area Real Estate. Brown Butter Bakery will provide refreshments during the session.
Officials say the event will look to ensure more households have access to timely weather alerts, a critical tool during severe weather season in Alabama.
Community members are encouraged to attend and take advantage of the free resources.
