SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga High School Marching Aggie Band is turning up the volume on nostalgia, energy, and iconic music with the announcement of its 2026 fall field production: “The Sounds of a Generation.”

The concept aims to capture the defining hits that have shaped generations; songs that didn’t just top charts, but became part of the cultural fabric. From timeless classics to modern anthems, the show will celebrate music that instantly transports listeners back to a moment in time.

As part of the creative process, the band is inviting you to weigh in.

Band members, alumni, parents, and music fans across the Sylacauga area are encouraged to submit songs they believe represent their generation. However, there’s a catch: this isn’t just about personal favorites.

Selections should reflect songs that reached #1 status or achieved widespread cultural impact, helping define an era across any genre, whether it’s pop, rock, hip-hop, country, or beyond.

These songs should be the most influential, catchy, and memorable songs that defined your teenage and young adult years (within the year range provided in the form below).

Here’s an example: You may have been born in 1957, so you are considered a Baby Boomer, generationally-speaking. That means you were a senior in high school in 1975. Think about those years as you went to football games, the movies, and started college. Songs that had impact and that are memorable during those few years may include “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder, “That’s the Way (I Like It)” by KC and the Sunshine Band, “Stayin’ Alive” by Bee Gees, “Hotel California” by Eagles, and “Three Times a Lady” by Commodores.

“This show is all about connection,” Sylacauga Director of Bands, Samuel Childs, shared. “We want music that people recognize within seconds. The kind of songs that bring back memories and create excitement both on the field and in the stands.”

Childs notes that the final show will blend musicality, visual performance, and storytelling to create a high-energy production designed to resonate with audiences of all ages.

Submissions are now open, and community members are encouraged to participate in shaping what promises to be one of the most engaging and relatable productions the Marching Aggie Band has brought to the field. Deadline for submissions is April 10.
