SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Police Department has issued a community notification regarding a convicted sex offender who is currently residing in Talladega County.

According to law enforcement officials, 56-year old Robert Martin Wimer is listed as homeless and does not have a permanent address. Because of that status, police said they are required to notify all residents of Sylacauga under Alabama’s Community Notification Act.

Wimer is described as a white male, 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Authorities said Wimer was convicted under Alabama Code 13A-12-192(b), possession of obscene material containing a minor.

“This information is made available for the purpose of protecting the public,” the department said in its notice. “Anyone who uses this information to commit a criminal act against another person is subject to criminal prosecution.”

Officials said they were informed that Wimer resides within the area and are required to provide community-wide notice because he does not have a fixed residence.

Anyone with questions may contact the Sylacauga Police Department.
