Coosa Valley Medical Center approved to renovate and expand Behavioral Health Unit

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Alabama’s Health Planning and Development Agency has issued a Certificate of Need to Coosa Valley Medical Center to renovate the existing Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit at the Sylacauga hospital.

Effective Feb. 2, 2026, the Certificate of Need allows Coosa Valley Medical Center to add five geriatric psychiatric beds and establish a 20-bed adult psychiatric unit at the Senior Behavioral Health Unit.

This proposal is pursuant to Plan Adjustment PA2025-002, approved by Gov. Kay Ivey on June 16, 2025, for Alabama Administrative Code R. 410-2-4-10 of the Psychiatric Care Section of the Alabama State Health.

The estimated cost of the project is $5,841,509.
