SYLACAUGA, Ala. — The Sylacauga City Council will meet Tuesday, Feb. 3, with a work session beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Faye Hosey Chambers, followed immediately by the regular council meeting.
During the work session, council members are scheduled to discuss a counteroffer proposal related to property negotiations involving Reginald McKenzie, with the possibility of a related vote if the item is ready for placement on the agenda. Discussion is also planned regarding approval of electrical work and interior renovations at the Comer Museum, funded through 2024-A bond proceeds.
Additional topics include this year’s application for the Rebuild Alabama Act grant, a presentation regarding “Safe Haven Baby Boxes,” veterinarian service needs at the animal shelter, and the potential capital purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus units for the fire department.
Council members will also review language related to the city’s six-month hold on issuing new licenses to businesses receiving more than 50% of sales from alcohol and vape products, reinstatement of the Marble City Perpetual Care Committee, a credit card application for city use, and an enterprise lease agreement for police department vehicles.
During the council meeting, members are expected to consider action on the McKenzie property agreement, museum electrical expenditures, adoption of resolutions and contracts tied to the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, authorization for Michael Rice of EEF&S to file the Rebuild Alabama Act grant application on behalf of the city, and approval of the fire department’s SCBA capital expenditure.
The agenda also includes consideration of accounts payable invoices for fiscal years 2025 and 2026, as well as approval of January payrolls.
