MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama’s State Health Planning and Development Agency has issued a Certificate of Need to Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga to renovate its geriatric behavioral health unit and expand psychiatric services in Talladega County.
The certificate, effective Feb. 2, 2026, allows CVMC to add five geriatric psychiatric beds and establish a new 20-bed adult psychiatric unit at the Senior Behavioral Health Center for Talladega County’s North Central Region.
The project is authorized under Plan Adjustment PA2025-002, approved by Gov. Kay Ivey on June 16, 2025, pursuant to Alabama Administrative Code 410-2-4-.10 governing psychiatric care in the state. Coosa Valley Medical Center submitted the application for the project, which carries an estimated cost of $5,841,509.
The hospital is an independent, non-profit facility with 168 licensed beds including148 acute-care beds and additional skilled nursing and other units. As the largest employer in Sylacauga, it has over 550 team members, around 40 volunteers, and nearly 112 physicians on staff.
