SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council adopted multiple fiscal and administrative measures during its regular meeting on Thursday evening, Jan. 22, following a work session that began at 5:00 p.m.
In Old Business, the council unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2026 budget for the City of Sylacauga excluding revenues and expenditures related to the Sylacauga City Schools’ Board of Education. All council members voted in favor of the measure.
The council then adopted a separate Fiscal Year 2026 budget covering revenues and expenditures related to the Board of Education. The budgets were divided into two votes to allow Councilman Nate Brewer to participate in the first vote but recuse himself from the second due to his employment with Sylacauga City Schools. Brewer also recused himself from the following vote in New Business.
In New Business, the council entered into an appropriation contract with the Board of Education for Fiscal Year 2026.
The council also authorized the annual Lake Howard appropriation, part of a five-year contract period running from Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2027. The agreement was originally entered into on Jan. 23, 2023.
Additionally, the council authorized the annual Local Motor Fuels Report.
Three Sylacauga Police Department officers received approved pay step increases effective Jan. 10. Officers Jonathan Ledbetter and Latonio Meadows advanced to PDC-1, Step 3. Officer Nathan Gray advanced to PDC-1, Step 2, effective on his date of hire.
The council approved Accounts Payable invoices totaling $384.41 for Fiscal Year 2025 and $1,669,934.65 for Fiscal Year 2026.
The next regular meeting of the Sylacauga City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 6:00 p.m.
