SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met on Tuesday night, Nov. 18, following a work session which began at 5:00 p.m.

At the meeting, approval was granted for the 2026 Holidays and City Council meeting dates.

The council approved a month-to-month contract extension for Simcut Lawncare for downtown maintenance at $2,016.34 per month until a new contract is executed through the bid process.

Mayor Dr. Matt Hubbard was authorized to sign the new Forerunner Technologies contract for City phone service in the amount of $1,176.49 per month plus the upfront cost of $2,828.26.

The city council approved starting pay for Sylacauga Police Officer Jeffrey Johnson at Grade PDC-1, Step 2. Officer Johnson is APOST Certified.

Councilman Tim Vincent was appointed to serve as an ex-officio member of the Planning Commission.

The request by Interim Street Department Superintendent Kenneth Kromer to sell his remaining vacation time was approved.

A five percent pay increase for salary due to the interim appointment as City Clerk/Treasurer for Kassey Epperson, effective Nov. 29, 2025, was established.

The council approved Accounts Payable invoices for FY2025 in the amount of $24,875.87 as well as Accounts Payable invoices for FY2026 in the amount of $688,240.61.

The next Sylacauga City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday evening, Dec. 2.
