OPELIKA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools leadership gathered Monday, July 28, for its annual Administrative Leadership Retreat, a day marked by motivation, reflection and team-building.

Held at the Opelika Chamber of Commerce, the retreat opened with Dr. Lisa Kensler of Auburn University guiding participants through the Clifton Strengths Online Talent Assessment. Leaders explored how their individual strengths can enhance their impact within the district and beyond.

Dr. Michele Eller, Superintendent of Sylacauga City Schools, later challenged the team to “Depict and Transfix Education in 2026,” encouraging a forward-thinking vision of education as a transformative force. Discussions focused on the Portrait of a Graduate, new legislative acts, and professional development.

Team-building took center stage with a Marshmallow Challenge, promoting creativity, collaboration and communication. The Central Office team of Tom Osborne, Ward King and Bobby Hall earned first place, while Indian Valley’s Dr. Bruno and Cindy Cleveland finished second.

Lunch was followed by a round of putt-putt golf at Tigertown Sports, reinforcing focus, patience and problem-solving. The winning team included Cleveland, Hall, Laura McGilberry, Dr. Bennie Lewis and Mike Robinson. Gary Rivers claimed the lowest individual score.

The event highlighted the district’s commitment to excellence through professional growth and fellowship.

Sylacauga City Schools expressed its thanks to community partners Dr. Kensler, Auburn University, Ward Scott Morris Architecture, Curriculum Associates, and Kid’s First for their support.
