SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Southern Dance and Performing Arts Company, a program of the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement, will hold auditions for its upcoming production of Emma on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 4-5.
Auditions will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the SDPAC studio. The production, adapted by Kate Hamill from Jane Austen’s beloved novel, offers a comic spin on the classic tale of matchmaking gone awry.
Actors ages 10 and up are welcome to audition, though roles will likely be filled by those 12 and older. Auditioners should prepare a 60-second monologue showcasing emotional range and must perform it – reading from a script is discouraged.
Cold-read “sides” will also be provided, and participants may be asked to read for a variety of roles, regardless of age or gender match.
Audition slots are assigned within the scheduled time windows. Late arrivals will be rescheduled into the next available slot.
Full audition details, including character descriptions and a tentative rehearsal calendar, are available at www.sdpac.net. For more information, contact SDPAC at [email protected] or call (256) 245-1669.
