SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Hwy 21 in Sylacauga will be shut down with traffic rerouted for an undisclosed amount of time after a power line incident involving a contracted utility worker caused a fire, igniting a gas line underneath the road.
Sylacauga Firefighters are currently working diligently to suppress the blaze while the Sylacauga Utility Board works to shut down the gas line that runs close to the Marathon gas station on Hwy 21 next to Nichols-Lawson Middle School.
The contractor, unidentified at this time, that was on-site when the accident occurred has been airlifted to UAB Hospital after sustaining severe injuries.
