CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office and the Childersburg Police Department are jointly investigating a shooting that left a woman critically injured on Saturday afternoon, June 21.
Officers responded to reports of a woman shot in the head just before 5:00 p.m. in the River Walk subdivision, just outside the Childersburg city limits, authorities said.
The victim was airlifted to UAB Hospital by Lifesaver 4. Her condition has not been released.
Confirmation was made that one person was detained at the scene. According to the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department, that suspect, 60-year-old Melvin Lewis Sheppard, was originally charged with Aggravated Assault – Family – Gun, and now faces a Domestic Violence 1st Degree charge.
The investigation remains ongoing.
