CHILDERSURG, Ala. – Earlier today, Meteorologist Brett Adair reported a large fire off of Rocky Ridge Road in Childersburg. It looked quite ominous with billowing black smoke that could be seen all the way into Sylacauga. It was also concerning as the blaze looked to be quite close to high-tension power lines.
We checked with Childersburg Fire & Rescue, who reported it to be a scheduled controlled burn that is completely under control.

There is an unrelated, non-controlled burn fire in Coosa County. Lay Lake Fire is currently assisting the Alabama Forestry Commission and the Marble Valley Volunteer Fire Department with a large brush fire off of Coosa County Road 99 and Coosa County Road 90. This fire is visible from quite a distance including from the narrows on the lake. Crews are working to get it under control.
