Childersburg brothers drown in tragic incident at Logan Martin Lake

ALPINE, Ala. – A tragic incident at Logan Martin Lake claimed the lives of two brothers on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 11.

Kevin Covington, 19, and Joshua Covington, 21, both of Childersburg, drowned while swimming near the lake’s dam.

According to reports, the brothers encountered trouble in the water around 4:30 p.m. after Kevin began to struggle which prompted Joshua to attempt a rescue. Both soon went under.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. Kevin was recovered from the water and rushed to Citizens Hospital in Talladega, where he was later pronounced dead.

A dive team from Pell City was called in to assist with the search for Joshua. He was found approximately two hours later at 6:49 p.m. and was declared dead at the scene.

An investigation uncovering further details about the tragedy is still ongoing.
