FAYETTEVILLE, Ala. – Wednesday night was a big night for Lay Lake Fire. Fire Chief Tim Butler retired after close to 40 years of public service, the last 6 serving as the Lay Lake Fire Chief.
Tim played a monumental role in the growth of the department, turning it into a successful, well rounded and highly trained volunteer fire department. He encouraged, mentored and pushed every member of Lay Lake Fire to achieve goals and become successful in ways they never believed possible. All of this done very selflessly stating, “It was an honor to serve and give back to my community.”
Chief Butler will transition onto the board of directors to continue to grow and progress the department while also having the spare time to enjoy retirement with his family.

Assistant Fire Chief Yancey Brown was promoted to be the new Lay Lake Fire Chief. The Lay Lake Fire Board of Directors elected Brown as the new Chief by the recommendation of Retiring Chief Butler. Brown achieved all necessary certifications to qualify for the position and has served with the department since 2016.
Donna Simmons was also promoted to Administrative Assistant (SGT) in recognition of the monumental help she has been to the Lay Lake Fire administration since joining almost a year ago.
