SYLACAUGA, Ala. – This week, Coosa Valley Medical Center’s COVID-19 positivity rate sits at 29.2%. The numbers of cases are climbing, and this latest surge is linked directly to the Thanksgiving holiday. As a result of this understanding, CVMS is encouraging to be more cautious over the next two holiday weeks.
“Our hospital staff members have worked for nine months without many breaks and are growing weary,” said Glenn C. Sisk, President and CEO of CVMC. “The best present we could receive from the community this year is a gift of extra precaution. Not only do we need to have everyone wearing masks, but we need to be sure they are worn properly, covering both the mouth and the nose. Studies continue to show masks as one of the best tools to use in preventing the spread of the virus.”
Sisk added that while we’re starting to get a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel with the introduction of the new vaccines, it will be several months before vaccines are available for the general public. The first rounds will be used for frontline healthcare workers, first responders and nursing home residents. It will probably be the spring or early summer before we see an impact from vaccinations on community spread of the virus.
“This means we have to continue doing what the Governor, the State Health Officer and other medical professionals have been urging… wear our masks, socially distance, and constantly wash our hands.”
“So, during the holidays and into next year, please make every effort to stay safe, to protect yourself, your family and others around you,” Sisk stated.
