SYLACAUGA, Ala. – With the 2020-2021 school year just around the corner, back to school will look a little different for students in Talladega County.
In a short video released on Tuesday, Talladega County Superintendent Dr. Suzanne Lacey announced re-opening plans for the 2020-2021 school year.
Students will have two options to choose from, in regards to how they receive their instruction.
Option 1 (traditional with phases)
Instruction Delivery Models:
- Traditional – All Students, All Teachers, All Day; Face-to-Face
Instructional Delivery - Blended – Students attend on Mon/Tue or Thurs/Fri; Wed will
be for Student Intervention and Extra Sanitization - Temporary Remote – Students and teachers work from home
using virtual/digital platforms; contact the local school regarding
the need for Internet accessibility
Teaching and Learning
- Traditional – Teaching and learning will occur utilizing
traditional methods; online learning methods will be
practiced - Blended – Students attend 2-3 full days per week (depending
upon documented student growth/deficiency);
download/upload assignments while at school; limited
number of students attended per day - Temporary Remote – Students complete classwork from
remote location; participate in virtual class meetings; submit
work digitally - Google Classroom will house student assignments
Interventions and Assessments
- All Phases – Early inventory/testing to determine student
skill/knowledge deficits - Development and implementation of intervention plans for
students with deficits - Assessments will be given in-person or digitally based upon
the phase
Option 2 (Beacon Virtual Academy)
Instruction Delivery Models
- Curriculum: Schools PLP (K-8) TBD (9-12) based on AL Standards.
- Supplemental Curriculum (iReady Reading/Math for K-8, Reading Horizons for K-3).
- Full academic year; Students may opt-out only at the end of each nine-week term.
- Rigorous, credit-bearing courses.
Teaching and Learning
- Formative and Summative Computer-based assessments via SchoolsPLP will be given.
- Additional required federal/state/district assessmentsto be administered to students following federal/state/district guidelines.
- Contact the local school regarding the need for Internet accessibility.
- Google Classroom Student Management System will provide access to all curriculum.
Interventions and Assessments
- Early inventory of student skill/knowledge deficits.
- Intervention plan and instructional pathway developed and implemented.
- Formative and summative assessments administered.
