SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Coosa Valley Apothecary hosted its ribbon cutting ceremony this morning at Coosa Valley Medical Center.
Coosa Valley Apothecary is a pharmacy located inside of Coosa Valley Medical Center with the goal of serving its patients with the convenience of getting a prescription filled before leaving the hospital.
“It’s important to have the pharmacy inside of the facility, so we can meet patients at their point of need before they return home,” R.D. Morris said. Morris is the director of pharmacy services at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Morris explained a pharmacy inside of the facility decreases readmission to the hospital.
“There is an astronomical amount of people who leave the hospital and do not fill the medication they’ve been prescribed, and that leads to all types of issues,” said Tyler Moberg. Moberg works for Proxsys RX, which manages the pharmacy’s operations. “That leads to readmissions and poor health outcomes. We bring the pharmacy to the patient’s room. We save them the trip of dropping off a prescription and waiting for it.”
Nicole Gravette is the lead pharmacist of Coosa Valley Apothecary. She told SylacaugaNews.com the pharmacy offers services to all hospital patients including discharged patients, emergency room patients and general surgery patients while also serving the general public.
“The team at Coosa Valley Medical Center works very hard to create as your health home,” said CVMC CEO Glenn Sisk to a crowd gathered at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “As expectations around healthcare change, one of the things we think about today is convenience. One of the things that we’ve not been able to help you with are your pharmaceutical needs once you leave CVMC, and that now has changed.”
Coosa Valley Apothecary is located on the ground floor of CVMC.
