SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga High School Class of 1962 was presented with the 57th Foundation Chair by Sylacauga City Schools Foundation (SCSF) last night in the Sylacauga High School foyer.

The Class of 1962 was presented with this reward after raising over $25,000 in donations for SCSF. To go along with the chair, the class was also presented with a plaque on the wall joining the previous groups who were honored with this award.

“Anytime you receive money from any organization it is special,” said Dr. Jon Segars, Superintendent of Education for Sylacauga City Schools. “This money will go directly to the classroom and teachers.”

The ceremony featured multiple members from the SHS Class of 1962 giving speeches that shared the memories of their times in high school.

“It is especially exceptional when you have somebody like the Class of 1962, which was almost 60 years ago, and have this many people show up to honor their school and their teachers as well as the current students and teachers,” said Dr. Segars. “It is very special and we certainly appreciate what they have done here.”

According to Executive Director of SCSF Carol Sprayberry, the foundation was founded in 1988 and has raised $2,102,369 since that year. 1,146 grants have been given that have affected 355,680 total students.
