Goodwater man dies in single-vehicle crash

GOODWATER, Ala. – A Goodwater man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash Friday evening.

Avery Phillips, 55, was driving along Hwy. 9 when he left the roadway and struck a tree, according to Cpl. Jess Thornton of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Thornton reported Phillips was not using a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred Friday at 11 p.m. near the 165 mile marker, approximately five miles north of Goodwater.

No further information is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
