SYLACAUGA, Ala. – On Monday the Sylacauga Street Dept. began cutting down trees along Broadway Ave. in front of Sylacauga High School.
The Street Dept. started with the trees on the football stadium side of Broadway Ave. and will move to the school side next.
The Sylacauga Tree Commission asked the City of Sylacauga for permission to remove the trees at the Sylacauga City Council meeting last week, and it was granted.
Many of the trees were dying and have broken off in recent storms.
Seven trees across from Albia Steer’s State Farm office on Hwy. 21 have already been removed. Mayor Jim Heigl said those trees have caused significant service outages in recent storms.
Be cautions when driving on Broadway Ave. Street Dept. crews have cones set up blocking lanes, but there should be no delays.
