SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Community Playhouse (SCP) invites you to join young Alice on her fanciful trip down the rabbit hole, into the topsy-turvy world of Wonderland. In her pursuit to find her true purpose, Alice encounters a variety of “splendiferous” creatures who encourage her to get in touch with her inner fabulosity.
From the perpetually-tardy White Rabbit, to the Mad Hatter, to the tyrannical Queen of Hearts and a host of other unforgettable characters, the residents of Wonderland become “curiouser and curiouser” as Alice wanders further into her magical adventure. Based on the 1951 Disney film “Alice in Wonderland” and the novels “The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll, the 2018 SCP production of “Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr.” will be performed July 19-22 in the Sylacauga High School auditorium.
Under the leadership of co-directors Jodi Courington, Janie Giddens and Lauren Taunton, an all-volunteer team of more than 75 cast and crew members will showcase the SCP mission of providing theatrical education, experiences and quality entertainment throughout the community by creating theatre arts opportunities for all ages, including those who are intellectually and physically challenged. SCP is a 501(c)(3) corporation, dedicated to excellence in arts and artistic educational opportunities in the Sylacauga, AL area. Tax-deductible contributions may be made toward future productions, theatre and arts education opportunities, scholarships for students preparing to pursue a career in arts, or toward growth of SCP’s capabilities.
Performance dates and times are July 19-21 at 6:30 p.m., and July 22 at 2 p.m. All four performances will take place in the Sylacauga High School auditorium, 701 N. Broadway Ave., Sylacauga, AL.
