SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacuaga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE) has made a name for itself in the city of Sylacauga and Talladega County with its continuous efforts to change the scenery of the area.
In November, SAFE held its 20th anniversary celebration in the SAFE Community Garden in Sylavon Court where SAFE launched its “A SAFE Investment” program where Nemak made the first donation to there program with an investment of $20,000.
That day officials from Nemak presented the $20,000 check to SAFE Director Margaret Morton. That photo has made its way to Nemak’s newest marketing material where it will be shown in colleges and in plants located in the United States and Canada for worker recruitment.
The partnership with SAFE goes back to one of Nemak’s core values, Respect and Responsibility. Nemak feels it has the responsibility to give back to the community like it continues to do with SAFE and other organizations in the area. “We are active in all of our communities worldwide,” said Plant Manager Nick Davey-Turner. “In every location we are part of the community in some way, shape and form.”
“Community involvement is at the core of our company and that is something that is driven from the top to the bottom,” added Human Resources Manager for Nemak Steve Barlow. “We believe that is a reason for our success.”
As proud as SAFE is that its organization will be shown off internationally, the local plant is just as happy with the recognition. “We are very proud to be a part of this community and most certainly proud to be a part of this type of marketing exposure. It’s great for the Alabama site for sure,” explained Davey-Turner.
As far as opportunities in the future go between SAFE and Nemak, Morton explained the two are always looking into the future to find ways to improve the community.
