HARPERSVILLE, Ala. – On Monday, June 15, the Police Chief of the Harpersville Police Department Jimmy Macon received notice that he had indeed tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, according to a press release from the Police Department.
Macon exhibited no symptoms prior to the test results, and has been instructed by health officials to be retested.
All officers who were on duty at the time were sent home and instructed to quarantine, while their tests were processed.
On Tuesday morning, the Police Department building was cleaned and sanitized by a professional disinfectant company.
In the meantime, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is currently policing the Harpersville area.
“We are sincerely appreciative of the Sheriff’s Office assisting the town of Harpersville during this time,” the press release stated.
As of June 18, two police officer’s tests have come back negative, and the department is still awaiting the results from the remaining police officers.
“All precautionary measures have been taken,” the press release stated. “We are adhering to the guidelines set forth by Governor Ivey and the Department of Public Health. We are following the situation and will continue to update the public as more information becomes available.”
