SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga County Annex will re-open Monday, May 18 with restrictions after being closed for two months.
The decision to re-open was a unanimous one after the Talladega County Commission voted Monday night.
“It is just time to begin re-opening, but we do not entirely know what to expect because because this is new to everyone,” said Talladega County Administrator Pat Lyle.
The Sylacauga Annex will feature a variety of changes, one of those being the probate office is implementing a drive-thru for tags only.
“We are going to limit the amount of people that can be in the courthouse at one time, so there will be a deputy out front screening because we can only safely distance so many people inside the offices at one time,” said Lyle.
Only two people will be allowed inside the tag office at a time, according to Lyle.
“There has been a segment of the population that has continued to work and serve the public via phone and email, but there is a segment of the public that simply prefers to come in and do their business in person,” said Lyle. “Those people are anxious, and we know that because people are still coming up to the door everyday.”
Social distancing will be practiced in the annex, and markers will be in the hallways to keep people six feet apart.
