Appointment of Fire Chief on Sylacauga City Council Proposed Tuesday Night Agenda

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council will meet on Tuesday night, Dec. 19 at 6:00 in the council chambers at City Hall. A work session will precede the meeting at 5:00.

On the agenda is the appointment of a fire chief for the Sylacauga Fire Department. Adam Garner currently serves as the Interim Fire Chief, and could be appointed as the full-time chief.

Here is the council’s proposed agenda for the meeting:

  1. Public hearing to consider a Redevelopment Reimbursement Agreement with Hurr, Smith & Sanders, LLC., for Pizza and Pint Restaurant.

  1. Public hearing to consider a Redevelopment Reimbursement Agreement with Hurr, Smith & Sanders, LLC, for Trailwares (public hearing set by Resolution 50-2017 11-21-17). (Resolution 57-2017 if approved)

  1. Resolution 58-2017 supporting upcoming legislation regarding the licensing and regulation of child care facilities by the Department of Human Resources.

  1. If ready, Resolution 59-2017 setting date for public hearing and authorizing publication of notice for consideration of a Redevelopment Reimbursement Agreement with Second Street of Sylacauga, LLC for a retail center located at 600 West Ft. Williams Street.

  1. Authorization for City Attorney to offer settlement in legal matter.

  1. 2018 holiday schedule.

  1. Authorization to enter lawsuit to be filed against drug manufacturers and distributors who helped create the current opioid epidemic; authorize Mayor to sign Attorney Retainer Contract with Montgomery Ponder, LLC.

  1. Recommendation from Mayor Jim Heigl to name Mike Whetstone as interim Director of Codes Enforcement effective immediately for up to 120 days or until such time as the position is filled through CSB processes, and to authorize a 5% pay increase during interim service.

  1. Recommendation from HR Specialist Jayne McGee and Interim Fire Chief Adam Gardner to accept revised job description and establish rate of pay for Firefighter-full time.

  1. Recommendation from HR Specialist Jayne McGee and Interim Fire Chief Adam Gardner to accept revised job description and establish rate of pay for Firefighter-part time.

  1. Request from Interim Fire Chief Adam Gardner to authorize posting of full- and part-time firefighter positions.

  1. Appointment of fire chief, if ready.

  1. Change time of rescheduled work session and council meeting of Jan. 4, 2018 to 4:30 P.M. work session and 5:00 P.M. Council meeting due to conflict with Planning Commission meeting.

  1. Request from Police Chief Kelley Johnson to purchase badge printer, required software, web camera, backdrop and stand, and supplies at a cost of $5,200.00.

  1. Approve expenses for PD Chief Kelley Johnson to attend the following AACOP-CLEEP certification training courses: Internal Communications in a Police Environment on Jan. 18, and Managing a Multigenerational Workforce on Jan. 19, in Dothan. There is no registration fee; expenses for lodging, meals, and fuel for a city vehicle will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Johnson is $408.22.

  1. Approve expenses for PD Captain Rondell Muse to attend the following AACOP-CLEEP certification training courses: Internal Communications in a Police Environment on Jan. 18, and Managing a Multigenerational Workforce on Jan. 19, in Dothan. Registration fee is $99 per course; additional expenses for lodging and meals will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Muse is $531.22.

  1. Approval of additional FY17 Accounts Payable in the amount of $158.85.

  1. Balance of Accounts Payable for November in the amount of $136,253.01.

  1. November Payroll in the amount of $377,709.26.

All citizens of the City of Sylacauga are invited to attend the city council meeting.
