HomeLocalAlabama Department of Corrections COVID-19 updateAlabama Department of Corrections COVID-19 updateWed, July 29, 2020 by SylacaugaNews.com Digital TeamSHARE NOW MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) updated its COVID-19 numbers.The ADOC was informed via self-reporting that five staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 as of 12:00 p.m. on July 28:Bibb Correctional Facility (Brent, AL) – one staff memberBirmingham Community Based Facility/Community Work Center (Birmingham, AL) – one staff memberEasterling Correctional Facility (Clio, AL) – one staff memberElmore Correctional Facility (Elmore, AL) – one staff memberHolman Correctional Facility (Atmore, AL) – one staff memberThese individuals promptly self-quarantined under the direction of their healthcare providers.The ADOC’s Office of Health Services (OHS) has initiated investigations to determine which, if any, ADOC inmates or employees may have had direct, prolonged exposure to these staff members. Upon completing the appropriate due diligence, OHS will advise any staff with direct exposure to contact their healthcare providers and self-quarantine as advised.One hundred twenty-three COVID-19 cases among ADOC staff and contracted staff remain active. One hundred sixty-six staff members who previously self-reported a positive test have been cleared by medical providers to return to work.The ADOC has also confirmed that four inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 as of July 27:Staton Correctional Facility (Elmore, Alabama) – two inmatesClair Correctional Facility (Springville, Alabama) – one inmateTutwiler Quarantine Intake Facility (Wetumpka, Alabama) – one inmateNewly identified positive cases outlined above include inmates who are symptomatic and inmates who are asymptomatic. All existing quarantine protocols held in-place or newly implemented as recommended by the ADOC’s contracted State Medical Director are being maintained at each facility where the newly identified positive inmates are currently housed.One hundred ninety-nine total cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed among our inmate population, seventy of which remain active.
