SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Board has approved a new program called R.E.C.E.S.S. The purpose of R.E.C.E.S.S. is to offer sports and social events for active adults in the community.

Currently the only adult sport offered by Parks and Recreation is softball, but Athletics Director Steve Masters said he hopes to bring in sports like dodge-ball, kick-ball, ultimate frisbee, and more.

Masters emphasized the focus of  R.E.C.E.S.S. is on fun and socializing, not competition. He said it is for everyone, not just the star athlete. Masters told he hopes participants will go out and enjoy themselves after games at the social events that will be planned by a committee of volunteers.

Masters said volunteers are essential and he needs volunteers to help make R.E.C.E.S.S. a success. To help form the committee of volunteers, contact Parks and Recreation. The committee will also have a hand in determining what sports will be offered.

The ages allowed to play have not been determined, but Masters said he believes the age range will be for adults 21 years-old and up.
