Train Carrying Republican lawmakers collides into truck; Rep. Mike Rogers, other Alabama lawmakers are safe

CROZET, VA. – According to Amtrak, a passenger railroad service, one if its trains carrying republican lawmakers collided with a large truck in Virgnia on Wednesday as it transported its passengers to a retreat.

According to a tweet released by Alabama District 4 Congressman Robert Aderholt who was on the train, one person in the truck has died.

 

Gov. Kay Ivey released a tweet saying all members on the train from the state of Alabama were fine. The other members of congress on the train were Mike Rogers, Bradley Byrne, Martha Roby and Gary Palmer.

 

“This morning at approximately 11:15, the train that Ann and I are traveling on to the annual Republican House and Senate members retreat struck a trash truck. One of the three occupants of the truck was killed and the other two were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries,” said Congressman Gary Palmer. “We are praying for comfort for the family of the individual who is deceased and praying God’s mercy and healing for the two who were injured and we are praying for the engineer of the train who was also injured. There are several doctors and nurses who are members of Congress who left the train to give aid to the injured. Ann and I are fine, and as far as I know no one else on the train was seriously injured.”

Rep. Rogers also released a tweet saying he and his wife, Beth, were uninjured in the collision.

Vice President Mike Pence said he and President Donal J. Trump will continue to monitor the situation closely.
