Talladega National Forest continues prescribed burns

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala.- Where there is smoke there is fire, but local residents will not have to stop, drop and roll if smoke floods into the area.

The Talladega Ranger District is planning another prescribed burn in the Talladega National Forest Monday. This burn will cover 980 acres of land just five miles east of Sylacauga.

Forest Service roads 601, 601B, 601D, 601E and 601K should be traveled with caution. During Monday’s burn, the public will notice Forest Service fire crews and equipment on these roads. Smoke may also be visible from Alabama Highways 21 and 148 and the Sylacauga area.

The wind is expected to be out of the southwest and carry the smoke to the east towards Bulls Gap and Millerville. As the temperatures cool later today, the smoke will be gin to settle down into the Tallaseehatchee Creek and the Lake Howard areas. If encountering smoke on roadways please slow down and turn on your low-beam headlights. Use caution when encountering prescribed burning operations and smoke.

If you have any questions, please contact the Talladega office at 256-362-2909.
