TALLADEGA, Ala. – Ben Robbins, a Talladega County native and partner at Robbins & Robbins Law Firm, today announced his candidacy to represent the 33rd District in Alabama’s House of Representatives.

The district, which includes portions of Clay, Coosa, and Talladega Counties, has been represented by Ron Johnson since 1978. The Republican Primary will be held on June 5, 2018, followed by the General Election on November 6, 2018.

Robbins, 34, promises “a new take on the problems that plague our state and district.” His announcement stressed a need for “fresh ideas that when combined with bold leadership and true conservative values will form the basis of success in our area.”

“I’m running to be the recruiter-in-chief for our district and to push for a brighter tomorrow with an expanding economy and increased opportunities,” Robbins said in his announcement. His website is now active at VoteBenRobbins.com.

Grandson of former Childersburg Mayor Robert Limbaugh, Robbins served as a Legislative Correspondent for U.S. Senator Richard Shelby in Washington, D.C., in 2007-2008. A seventh generation Talladega County resident, he is President-Elect of the Talladega Rotary Club, serves on community boards including Habitat for Humanity and Logan Martin Lake Protection Association, and is a member of the Sylacauga Young Professionals organization.

Robbins earned a bachelor’s degree from Samford University, master’s in history from Mississippi State University, and law degree from St. Thomas University. He is a graduate of Talladega High School.

Incumbent Ron Johnson, 74, who lives in Sylacauga and is expected to run for an 11th four-year term, was unopposed in the 2014 Republican primary and defeated his Democratic opponent with 75.2% of the vote. He is currently vice-chair of the Rules Committee and a member of the Health and Economic Development & Tourism Committees.
