SYLACAUGA, Ala. — The Sylacauga Young Professionals group is preparing for its November meeting.
But, it’s not going to be a conventional meeting.
Instead, it will be a food drive.
The first Sylacauga Young Professional’s Food Drive will be held at Harvey’s On Noble on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m.
SYP organizers got creative when it came to preparing for the drive. Since the drive is just over a week away from the biggest game of the year (in Alabama at least), they decided to make it Iron Bowl-themed. All all attendees are encouraged to wear Auburn or Alabama colors and bring at least one canned good. Canned goods will be divided among Auburn or Alabama fans to see which team’s fans donate the most food. All goods will then be donated to the Sylacauga Care House for the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays.
The event is free and open to the public. Guest can enjoy live entertainment by Tommy Brown and will be encouraged to network with one another while supporting local business.
The food drive is just one of many local service projects SYP will host this year. The organization teamed up with S.A.F.E. to prepare local gardens for the Dinner Under the Stars event in September. In October, SYP held an Oktoberfest party in support for the Sylacauga Animal Shelter. In December, it plans to hold a Feliz Navidad Christmas party, where attendees will be asked to bring Christmas gifts for students in need at Pinecrest Elementary School in Sylacauga.
There is a central theme to all events hosted by Sylacauga Young Professionals: all benefit a local charity or organization. SYP Vice President Summer Newman Ernest said all future events will continue to benefit local organizations and each venue will vary to support local businesses.
Sylacauga Young Professionals was formally created in August 2016 and is currently open for membership. Any professional living or working in Sylacauga is welcome to join the organization. Dues are $25 and t-shirts are on sale for an additional $20.
Sylacauga Young Professional is led by President Rocky Lucas, Vice President Summer Newman Ernest, and Secretary/Treasurer Lindsay Johns. Visit the Sylacauga Young Professionals Facebook page for more information and updates on upcoming events.
