Sylacauga police chief says social media rumors not credible

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Despite social media messages suggesting a planned protest “shutting down” parts of U.S. Hwy 280 near Walmart Friday afternoon, Sylacauga police chief Kelley Johnson told SylacaugaNews.com “nothing credible.”

The messages also suggested business were being notified by the SPD. “We did not call anyone or tell anything,” said Johnson.

In many cases, rumors start on social media that have not been vetted and are not legitimate news or factual information from credible sources.

SylacaugaNews.com will continue to update this story as more official developments occur.
