Sylacauga City Schools released the following message at 12:52 p.m. today.

“Friday night following the Sylacauga High School Homecoming game, an SHS senior was assaulted at a downtown location,” said Dr. Todd Freeman, Superintendent of Sylacauga City Schools. “Our immediate concern is for the health and well-being of our student. Every child who attends Sylacauga City Schools is part of our family and we are grieved that this happened to one of our own. We are steadfastly praying for healing and a full recovery.

“Sylacauga City Schools officials have been working closely with the Sylacauga Police Department in its investigation throughout the weekend. We urge students, parents, and community members to contact the police with any information about this incident.

“We remain vigilant about the safety and protection of our students. Therefore, the Sylacauga Police Department will have an increased presence in the schools as part of the system plan to ensure the safest environment possible for our students. With this added security measure, all schools will continue to operate a regular schedule on Monday.

“In closing, I would like to remind you of the motto of Sylacauga High School: We Are Family. As we come together in prayer and concern for our injured student family member, let us also come together in support and encouragement of one another. Indeed, we are family.”
