[WATCH] Sylacauga City Council meets for second time in March

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council held its meeting Tuesday night, March 21, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior at 5:00 p.m.

At the meeting, the city council approved Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) special fund budgets.

They set a date for a public hearing to consider annexation and zoning of property located at 415 Odena Rd. S. First available date for public hearing is May 2, 2023.

The property at 201 W 4th Street was declared as surplus to requirements and approvd to be sold to Blue Bell Creameries with authorization of Mayor Jim Heigl to sign the deed.

Four board reappointments were made with Gloria Owens and Stephen McClurg put back on the Historical Commission as well as the Commercial Development Authority with DeCorey Hale and Keith Honeycutt both being reappointed.

The lone new appointment was to the Parks and Recreation Board as Zach Nelson took the open position.

There was a reading into the minutes dealing with Mayor Heigl reappointing Patrick Lozito to the Sylacauga Housing Authority for the five-year term from February 2023 until February 2028.

The council approved the 020-Restaurant Retail Liquor application from Bogue Eli Stevens, owner of Tallakas, LLC, DBA Lloyd’s Restaurant located at 40810 US Hwy 280 in Sylacauga.

They also approved a resolution clarifying health and dental insurance benefits for retirees.

The city council approved travel and training expenses for the following city employees:

– Firefighters Brett Autrey, Shelby Byrd, and Matt Carpenter to attend the Alabama Fire College Rescue Technician: Rope I course hosted by the Anniston Fire Department, April 17-21, 2023. No registration fee; expenses for lunches will be incurred. Employees will carpool in a city-provided vehicle. Total estimated expenses for Autrey, Byrd, and Carpenter are $75 each.
– Firefighters Brett Autrey, Logan Blake, Matt Carpenter, Harmony Kelley, A.J. Tubbs, and Cass Patterson to attend the Alabama Fire College Rescue Technician: Rope II course hosted by the Anniston Regional Training Center, April 24-26, 2023. Registration fee of $240 per employee; expenses for lunches will be incurred. Employees will carpool in a city-provided vehicle. Total estimated expenses for Autrey, Blake, Carpenter, Kelley, Tubbs, and Patterson are $285 each.
– Fire Lt. Kyle Moseley to attend the Alabama Fire College Rescue Technician: Cave I and II courses hosted by the Huntsville Regional Training Center, July 27-31, 2023. Registration fee of $350; additional expenses for lunches and use of a city-provided vehicle will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Moseley are $425.
– Fire Inspector Chad Toland to attend the Alabama Fire College Live Fire Instructor/Instructor in Charge course hosted by the Oxford Fire Department, April 17-21, 2023. Registration fee of $350; additional expenses for lunches and use of a city-provided vehicle will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Toland are $425.

Sylacauga’s city council approved the balance of February Accounts Payable invoices in the amount of $356,477.05 and the February payroll in the amount of $404,511.43.

The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 4, at 6:00 p.m.
