Sylacauga’s Keaton Wilson named MVP of state all-star game Thursday night

MONTGOMERY, Ala – Former Sylacauga quarterback Keaton Wilson competed in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s North/South all-star game Thursday night and was named the game’s most valuable player.

“It’s just a dream come true,” Wilson tells SylacaugaNews.com. “I owe it all to God. I had the best teammates on the North team, we built a bond within a 4-day span that helped us bring home that win yesterday. They were the ones that kept me up through that game to keep pushing and to just do what I do best.”

Wilson completed two of his three passes for 56 yards, rushed for 72 yards on 14 carries, and scored two touchdowns. The North defeated the South by a score of 27-14.

Sylacauga Athletic Director and head football coach Matt Griffith was on hand all week serving as an assistant coach for the North team, and coached Wilson throughout the week.

“I can’t describe how proud we all are of Keaton,” Griffith said. “He is the first player to be selected to play in the North-South all-star since the year 2000. For him to win the MVP and for me to be with him coaching him all week, that was something special. All of our community should be very proud of him.”

This year was the 59th anniversary of the all-star games put on by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. The week consists of games in baseball, softball, football, cross country, volleyball, and soccer.
