SouthFirst Bank Adult Lecture Series: “Inspirational Songs from the Heart”

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – On Feb. 14, a group of 30 members of the renowned Talladega College Choir will perform at the B.B. Comer Memorial Library for this week’s SouthFirst Bank Adult Lecture Series.

The choir – formed in 1877 – has a history spanning over 140 years. The students who make up the almost 100 member choir have had amazing opportunities to perform at such venues as the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.; the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Birmingham; and UNCF’s An Evening of Stars. The students are well rehearsed in the rudiments of music, and all enjoy representing Talladega College through song as they travel and perform for the enjoyment of others. The Talladega Choir Ensemble will sing gospel and inspiration songs – offering a lovely, uplifting experience.

The choir director, Dr. William S. Mitchell, began his professional career in 1966 at J.N. Erwin High School in Dallas, Texas as the instructor of Class Piano and Band, and moved to Tyler, Texas in 2005 to direct Choral Music for Texas College. In 2013, Dr. Mitchell became the director of the Talladega College Choir. Dr. Mitchell holds a Master of Art in Music Education from A&M College in Prairie View, Texas, and he is a member of several prestigious musical and educational professional organizations.

“I want to invite everyone to come out on Valentine’s Day to hear beautiful music and singing at the Adult Lecture Series,” said B.B. Comer Memorial Library Director Tracey Thomas. “The refreshment room opens at 11:00 a.m., and participants are invited to bring a sandwich and enjoy drinks and desserts provided by the library.”

The Adult Lecture Series – “These Are Our Stories” – is sponsored by SouthFirst Bank. For more information, call (256)249-0961 or email [email protected].
