SHS Marching Aggie Band to host ‘haunted band room’ event Monday and Tuesday

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – To get in the spirit of Halloween, the Sylacauga High School Marching Aggie Band has some spooky spirit of its own.

Monday, Oct. 30 and Tuesday, Oct. 31, you have the opportunity to Survive the Haunted Band Room at Sylacauga High School…only if you dare.

“We were looking for ways to do things different in the community and to raise some money [for the SHS Band],” said Band Director Samuel Childs. “We want families to come out and have fun. It should be a good time.” Childs said he hopes this will become a tradition.

Band parents, along with students, have turned the everyday music space into a two-night spooky trek through darkness. All weekend, helpers have transformed the main band room, along with hallways, and other rooms, and an outside area, into an immersive, scary experience for all ages. Groups will spend about 15 minutes walking through the band room with a tour guide, getting scared along the way.

“I hope they will be scared and intrigued. I hope it will be good enough for people to spread the word,” said Childs. He hopes 300 will come through the doors.

“It’s going to be really cool to be a part of it,” said senior woodwind captain Baylee Wills. “People can expect to be scared and to have fun.”

“It’s going to be a good time,” said senior Seth Clifton. The snare drum player said he will be one of a handful of students participating in a skit midway through the tour.

“You’ll go through the spider layer, then through the maze, into a blackout room, and graveyard,” said senior baritone player Grayson Seth Harwell.

Admission is $10 at the door. The event will be open from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Face painting and games will also be available for kids ages 6 and under. The band room is located at on the corner of 6th Street and N. Norton Ave. in Downtown Sylacauga.
