SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Schools is initiating a new program for parents and adults in the community titled Face to Face. The first gathering will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the J. Craig Smith Community Center, with quarterly meetings to follow. The first Face to Face topic will be an in-depth look at the digital footprint of social media.

Wendy Arnold is the RTI (Response to Instruction) Specialist at Sylacauga City Schools and the facilitator for Face to Face. She said, “Our students are living in a high-tech world and facing obstacles most of us have never faced. Rather than having a workshop on the ‘stuff’ we need to know about social media, the opening session of Face to Face will take a ‘raw’ look into the world of computer forensics and cyber crimes.”

Three special agents from the Alabama Attorney General’s office will be at Face to Face to lead an in-depth conversation about the need for responsibility in social media.

This will not be a lecture or a typical presentation,” Arnold went on to say. The investigators will share examples of real-life situations and investigations.

Face to Face will be an opportunity to open the door to a greater conversation that adults should be having with children about their digital footprint,” she remarked.

Because the Face to Face will be an open and mature discussion, it is intended specifically for adults, guardians, and adults in the community. This is one occasion where students will be asked to wait separately and childcare will be provided.
