Renasant Bank in Childersburg raising money for breast cancer research in October

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Throughout October Renasant Bank in downtown Childersburg  hosts Pink-O-Ween – a month long effort to raise money for research on the second leading cancer diagnosis in women in the nation – breast cancer.

“We’ve had many people from the Renasant family affected by breast cancer, so every October we have our Pink-O-Ween event,” said Branch Manager Janice Grohs.

The numbers are staggering when it comes to how many Americans are affected by breast cancer. According to breastcancer.org, about 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, and in 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 63,960 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.

The most staggering statistic is this  – about 40,920 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2018 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1989 – furthering the need for all donations going towards breast cancer research.

To raise money this year for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, Renasant Bank in downtown Childersburg is hosting all types of events and selling tickets for raffle giveaways on many items. Earlier this month, it hosted a bake sale and today hosted an ice cream sundae sale. It is also selling raffle tickets for a Nick Saban signed football and an Alabama helmet signed by former Alabama tight end Brad Smelley. Ticket sales will run through Halloween.

The bank’s biggest event will be held on Halloween when it hosts its “Witches Brew $5 Lunch.” Grohs explained the lunch will consist of homemade soup, crackers, dessert and a drink.

“Our goal is $1,000 and every penny we make will go towards breast cancer research,” Grohs said. “We put on so many events because this is very important. We hope that people will come and support what we are doing here.”

There are so many more prizes to be raffled off including an Orca cooler, lawn chairs and beyond.
