Preparations being made for Miss Childersburg Pageant

SHARE NOW

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Nearly every girl growing up wants to be Miss America.

On Saturday, December 10 at Childersburg High School, they can have a shot at getting there in the Miss Childersburg Pageant. Miss Childersburg is under the Miss America System and is a local preliminary to the Miss Alabama Pageant.

“I have been involved with the pageant for about 15 years because I saw a need for scholarships for young women here in this area,” said Anita Mahaffey, director of the program.

Miss Childersburg contestants will participate in five phases of competition: private interview, onstage question, swimsuit, talent, and evening gown. Teen contestants will compete in four phases: private interview, physical fitness, talent, and evening wear and onstage question. Five judges from different parts of Alabama will grade each girl and choose this year’s winners.

Through participation in the pageant, contestants are eligible to receive scholarship money from varying universities and through scholarships given by different members and groups community.

To compete in Miss Childersburg, contestants must be between the ages of 18-24 and must reside in Talladega, St. Clair, Calhoun, Shelby, Clay, Coosa, or Cleburne counties. The same residential requirements apply to Miss Childersburg’s Outstanding Teen. Those young ladies must be between the ages of 13-17.

“The Chamber of Commerce of Childersburg is sponsoring the pageant,” said Mahaffey.

The winner of Miss Childersburg will compete for the title of Miss Alabama in June 2017 at Samford University in Birmingham. Miss Childersburg’s Outstanding Teen will compete in March 2017 in Sylacauga for the crown of Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen.

To participate, paperwork is available from Mahaffey or Kelley Nauther. Entry forms must be completed and returned by November 28. Contact Mrs. Anita Mahaffey of CACC for more information at 205-296-2911.
