Powell crowned Miss Sylacauga; Moore crowned Miss Marble Valley

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Isabella Powell, a 20-year-old Calera native, was crowned Miss Sylacauga on Saturday evening, and Mary Beth Moore was named Miss Marble Valley.

Ten young women competed in the two pageants held in the Sylacauga High School Auditorium.

Powell is a junior pursuing a degree in Vocal Performance at The University of Alabama. where she has been on the Dean’s List since 2015. She was SGA president at Calera High School.

Moore, also 20 years old and from Alabaster, was Thompson High School’s 2015 valedictorian and attends Troy University where she majors in Fine Arts in Dance.

Powell and Moore also won the talent competitions.

Kelsea Trice of Jemison was named Miss Sylacauga’s First Runner-Up and won the swimsuit competition. Mary Catherine Holloway from Hamilton was Miss Marble Valley’s First Runner-Up.

Maggie Jones of Springville was selected as Miss Congeniality.

The five phases of competition for each were private interviews with a five-judge panel, onstage questions, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuits, talent, and evening wear.

The Miss Sylacauga pageant, celebrating its 81st year, is the longest-running preliminary to the Miss Alabama pageant. “The winner could go on to be Miss America,” Jim Armstrong, Director of Sylacauga Parks and Recreation, told SylacaugaNews.com in an earlier interview.

This marked the sixth year of the Miss Marble Valley pageant.

Caitlyn McTier was 2017 Miss Sylacauga, and Sammy Rizzuto was 2017 Miss Marble Valley.
