Mike Landers leaves Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce post

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Mike Landers has resigned his position as executive director of the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce.

In a letter addressed to the board of directors, Landers expressed that appropriate leadership now in place allowed him to “leave the Chamber with confidence in its future progress,” adding that he would continue to support the Chamber and remain a Chamber member.

After eight months as interim executive director, Landers was named the organization’s permanent executive director in August 2015.

“I’m very fortunate to have been able to work closely with the Chamber for more than two years,” Landers told SylacaugaNews.com. “I have been able to do what I love in and for a city I love and will continue to do whatever I can to help improve and grow Sylacauga.”

Expressing “some sadness, yet a sense of accomplishment”, Landers explained his decision to “move on to other opportunities” and reminded the board of ongoing commitments to governmental relations work and political activities. In addition to consulting, he also serves on the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission’s board of directors and has been involved with many local civic and non-profit organizations.

No successor has been named.

Born and raised in Fayetteville and a long-time Sylacauga resident, Landers graduated from Fayetteville High School and earned degrees from the University of Alabama (BS, MS), the Harvard Kennedy School (MS), and the University of Alabama School of Law.

With more than 350 active members, the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce’s stated mission is to provide leadership and promote the economic advancement, business climate, and quality of life for Sylacauga and surrounding areas.
