Major progress on Sunday, but 285 Sylacauga Utilities Board customers still without power

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – As of 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, the Sylacauga Utilities Board had resolved all but 30 separate problems disrupting power to 285 customers. One of the 30 is affecting more than 40 customers; others are smaller groups.

According to officials, most of the biggest problems have been resolved, and tree trimmers are continuing to work throughout the afternoon and evening clearing the way for electrical workers to make more progress on repairing and reconnecting downed or damaged lines. The weight of heavy, wet snow caused many trees, limbs, and branches to fall, bend, or snap, taking down power lines in many areas. The City of Sylacauga’s Street Department has helped clear area roads of debris since the storm hit on Friday.

Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative, which serves areas in and around Sylacauga and neighboring counties, reported this afternoon that 100% of their customers were back online, while Alabama Power is still reporting outages related to this unprecedented Winter storm.
