SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Although its a few weeks after the Fourth of July, the city of Sylacauga will have fireworks of its own this weekend.

Organized by the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce, the fireworks will be blasted into the sky from the parking lot of the old Food World building. The site is located on Main Ave. just across from an Allen Oil convenient store.

The fireworks will be handled by Pyro Shows of Alabama Inc.

The property used to deliver the entertainment is owned by the City of Sylacauga. At its meeting Tuesday night, the Sylacauga City Council authorized Mayor Jim Heigl to execute an agreement with the chamber and Pyro Shows of Alabama allowing the two entities to use the property.

The event will be in conjunction with many events happening downtown on Saturday that Executive Director of the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce Laura Strickland hopes people will participate in. The Sylacauga Young Professionals will hold its Third Annual Shrimp Boil and Social beginning at 5:00 p.m. behind Fermenter’s Market with live music, and this weekend is tax free weekend for all stores ans shoppers in Sylacauga and many municipalities across the state.

Three separate musicians will take stage Saturday night. First David Simpkins will perform followed by Tommy Brown. The River Dan Band will conclude performances.

“This event is for everybody and we hope people will join us downtown before the fireworks for all the activities going on,” Strickland said. “This is a chance for people to enjoy downtown Sylacauga.”

The fireworks show will begin at 9:00 and last around 10 minutes. The chamber thanked Nemak, Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union, Southern States Bank, South First Bank and RadioAlabama for sponsoring the event.
