Two Hanover men arrested in separate incidents; one caught with 30 marijuana plants

HANOVER, Ala. – Two Hanover men have been arrested. One after law enforcement found 30 marijuana plants on his property.

According to the Coosa Co. Sheriff’s Office, Randolph Trent Pearce, 64, was served a search warrant at his home on July 21 by deputies and officers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Pearce, a convicted felon, was found at the residence and was confronted by the officers. After being given a copy of the search warrant and advised of his rights, Mr. Pearce indicated he did have a few marijuana plants.

According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, officers searched the home and an outbuilding on the property. The outbuilding was found to hold another building which was being used as an elaborate hydroponic marijuana grow operation. The operation was complete with grow lights, timers, irrigation, fertilization and more. Located in the grow area were 30 marijuana plants.

Officers arrested Pearce and took him to the Coosa Co. Jail. According to jail records, Pearce was given the following charges:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – First Degree
  • Possession of Marijuana –  First Degree
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

The Coosa Co. Sheriff’s office teamed up with ALEA to make another arrest in the area. While executing a search warrant on a residence in the Hanover, officers observed a person of interest who pulled into the driveway of the residence. Officers told the driver to stop but he fled the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, officers pursued the vehicle and saw the driver discard something from the window. Once the vehicle was stopped, the driver, Anthony Wayne Grogan, 46, was found to be in possession of an open container of alcohol. A vehicle search revealed a small amount of marijuana and a loaded magazine for a AR-15 rifle

Grogan, a convicted felon, was transported to his residence where consent to search the residence was obtained. The search revealed a large amount of marijuana and other controlled substances to include items used to manufacture marijuana and one AR-15 rifle.

Officers transported Grogan to the Coosa County Jail where he wass charged with, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Second Offense, Manufacture of a Controlled Substance First Degree and Possession of Marijuana First Degree.

Sheriff Terry Wilson stated he appreciates the hard work of his officers and the assistance of ALEA in helping to remove these dangerous drugs from the streets of Coosa County.
