Flower pots stolen from Broadway Ave. business

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Theft has occurred at multiple businesses along Broadway Ave. in Sylacauga, but items stolen may not be the first that come to mind.

Flowers and flower pots have began to go missing outside of Broadway businesses. Just this morning Nancy Willis, owner of Trailwares, discovered two of her flower pots stolen from just outside her front doors.

Willis, who is going on two years as a downtown business owner, told SylacaugaNews.com she went outside Monday morning to plant flowers in her pots. When she walked outside the store’s main entrance, the flower pots were no where to be found.

“Luckily I had not planted my spring flowers yet,” Willis stated. She explained she ordered flowers from the Sylacauga High School baseball team and wanted to plant. Now she has no pots to place in which to place them.

Willis said the flowers pots cost around $40-$50, meaning she is out nearly $100. For Willis, the act is discouraging as many downtown business owners truly work hard to bring a nice appearance to the strip of stores.

“It makes you not want to put anything outside the store,” she said. “If it’s a prank, it’s still costly. It still costs us money.”

Other stores, according to Willis, have also experience similar events in recent history.
