SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Citizens, along with first responders in Sylacauga, were rattled late Tuesday night as five structures throughout the city were burned.

Five homes total were on fire. Four of the five homes were on the west side of town around B.B. Comer High School. The homes affected were located on W. Pine St., W. 8th St., W. 9th St., and once again on W. 8th St. The fifth home was located on Cross Creek Ln. off of Hwy. 21 near Sycamore. Three of the five homes appeared to be a complete loss.

Sylacauga Fire Department Interim Fire Chief Adam Gardner told SylacaugaNews.com he believes all the fires are related, at least the four fire within a few blocks of each other. “This many fires this close together, we are sure they are all related,” he explained.

Gardner told SylacaugaNews.com no one was severely injured in Tuesday night’s terrorizing acts. “The homes set on fire so far have all been vacant, and we’ve been lucky to have no one injured,” Gardner told SylavcaugaNews.com live on the scene.

Gardner said all SFD employees are on standby for the rest of the night, as well as all local volunteer fire departments. Area fire departments responded to help SFD Tuesday night including Childersburg Fire Department, Talladega Fire Department and Oak Grove Fire Departments.

Gardner described the night as the most hectic night of his career and warned of the possibility of more fires. He said to call the police if suspecting any suspicious activity.

“Do not confront anyone and get a description of the suspicious person,” Gardner instructed.
